ABOUT AKSHITA

Akshita Jain is a wildlife and landscape photographer whose work is shaped by long hours in the field and a deep familiarity with India’s forests, grasslands, and wetlands. Growing up in Madhya Pradesh, her early years were closely tied to nature. At the age of thirteen, she began photographing wildlife with a simple point-and-shoot camera. What started as curiosity soon grew into a long-term practice of visual storytelling.

She later pursued a B.Tech degree at IIT Guwahati, serving as the Photography Club Secretary, and was awarded the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal. Immersed in the landscapes of North East India, this period shaped her visual approach as she explored travel, portrait, and landscape photography, before gradually returning her focus to wildlife and conservation storytelling.

Today, Akshita’s work centers on conservation-driven photo essays that document species behavior, habitats, and community-led conservation efforts across India. Her photographs and photo essays have been featured on platforms such as National Geographic, Nat Geo India, RoundGlass Sustain, BNHS Blog, and Outlook Traveller, and exhibited internationally, including at the Portraits International Exhibition in Romania. She has received national recognition for her work, including being a two-time Grand Winner of Wildlife Clicks, becoming the first and only woman to achieve this, winning the Sony BBC Earth Earth in Focus award, and being named Wildlife Conservation Photographer of the Year 2025 Runner Up at the TOFT Travel and Tourism Awards.

Alongside photography, Akshita has been involved in wildlife surveys and conservation initiatives across Indian forests, contributing field documentation and volunteering with on-ground projects. She has spoken on platforms such as TEDx on wildlife.

Professionally, she works as a software engineer at Microsoft. Photography, however, remains a central part of her life. Through long-term projects and thoughtful documentation, she aims to create work that supports conservation efforts and builds a visual record of the landscapes and wildlife we share space with.
